Abstract
A Preliminary Geochemical Investigation into Shales and Oil-Stained Sands from the Simpson Group in the Anadarko Basin.
Abstract
There is relatively little geochemical information related to oils and source rocks associated with the Ordovician age Simpson Group of shales and sands in the Anadarko Basin. This paper will briefly discuss geochemical characteristics of oils produced in the Eola Field from the Simpson Bromide sands and a number of Simpson shales to investigate their source potential. Certain geochemical characteristics permit the source characteristics to be differentiated from other potential sources in the area such as the Woodford. However, the geochemical signatures of the oils from the Eola Field clearly showed these oils were sourced from the Woodford and not the Simpson shales.
