Relation Between Interior Salt Domes and Basin Morphology

Oscar L. Paulson, Jr.

ABSTRACT

The Interior salt domes which extend from the Perry County, Mississippi Basin to the North Louisiana Syncline occupy an irregular sedimentary basin with total sediment thickness as great as 32,000 feet. The growth of these domes exhibit patterns which appear to be related to basin form and structur in that shallow domes occur along the margins of the basin while intermediate domes are in the deeper, central portion.
